Smurthwaite on Masculinity

Left-wing, highbrow, feminist, atheist comedian Kate Smurthwaite finally takes on the issue right at the very heart of women’s rights: men. And she’s taken “getting inside the subject” to a new level – performing the whole show in drag as her male alter-ego Milo Standards!

From the cage fighting to dating, the football terraces to the House of Lords, Smurthwaite will be asking what men in the 21st century are up to and more importantly – why?!

Quotes about Masculinity:

“This is a fun show. Proper funny fun… a polished comedy hour.”
Kate Copstick – The Scotsman

Ms Smurthwaite is an engaging performer, whatever she’s doing. She’s intelligent, has interesting things to say and an interesting, challenging, way to say it. A show that continues to improve even after you’ve long left the venue”

 Kate Smurthwaite

Kate has been on Question Time, The Big Questions, The Moral Maze and This Morning, was a 2013 ThreeWeeks Editors’ Choice award winner and is a writer for Have I Got News For You? and BBC3’s BAFTA-winning The Revolution Will Be Televised. She writes a regular humourous column for New Internationalist magazine and has also been published in The Guardian, The Independent, The Telegraph, Cosmopolitan and Stylist.

This is her eleventh solo show and will be touring later in the year. It follows on from her acclaimed 2015 show ‘The Wrong Sort of Feminist’ where she talked about choice and freedom, the feminist movement and a little spat with Goldsmith’s College that forced her to become the unwilling poster child for free speech,

‘Hilarious … a powerhouse of observational wit(Spectator).

‘An important and inclusive narrative on our society(ScotsGay)

‘The verve with which she articulates her views on our land is monumental(BroadwayBaby.com).

‘Comedy that cuts through the crap(ThreeWeeks).

‘You come across as not only being hypocritical, but incompetent and mendacious(Frankie Boyle)
